Organic modern, japandi or brutalist: custom furniture for any style
Why The Source refuses to be one style, and how pieces in teak, travertine, rattan and stone fit minimal, japandi, brutalist and organic modern rooms.

Ask Stephen Lasker to name The Source’s style and he won’t. “It’s not possible to put our style in a box and give it a name,” he says. “We can do anything but ugly.”
Why one style is the wrong question
Most furniture brands sell a look. A custom studio works the other way round: the room comes first. Stephen describes the studio’s range as versatile. Someone after a minimal look can find it in the collections, and so can someone after avant-garde, brutalist, japandi or contemporary pieces.
Three collections, one approach
- TSUBŪ
- Statement pieces: sculptural pieces for private houses and design-led interiors, in teak, travertine, lava stone, brass, shearling and rattan.
- ROOT 2
- Handcrafted rooms: whole rooms in hand-worked teak for villas, residences and boutique hospitality, with rattan, travertine, marble, cane and bouclé.
- SEED
- Projects at scale: capsule collections made to repeat across rooms and units in hotels and residential developments, in teak, rattan, rush, microcement and bouclé.

Matching materials to a style
- Organic modern and wabi-sabi
- Open travertine, warm teak and natural fibres like rattan and rush.
- Japandi
- Clean teak lines, cane and quiet, low silhouettes.
- Brutalist
- Heavy stone, lava stone and solid, sculptural forms.
- Minimal and contemporary
- Fewer, larger pieces where one material carries the room.
