Where is B The Source furniture made?

Pieces are designed in Bali and made in Jepara and Solo, Central Java.

Will I deal with Stephen directly?

Yes. Clients work with Stephen from the first drawing to shipping, and receive photos at each stage of production.

FOUNDER AND CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Stephen Lasker

Stephen Lasker has spent four decades between the drawing and the finished piece: running garment production in Zimbabwe, sourcing for international brands across Asia, designing interiors in Miami and opening Moooi's first showroom in the United States. He founded B The Source to put all of it into one thing: furniture that arrives exactly as it was drawn.

He oversees every project personally, with a team on site where it's made in Central Java. Clients deal with him directly.

CAPE TOWN AND BULAWAYO

The factory floor

Stephen trained in clothing and textile design, manufacturing and production at what is now Cape Peninsula University of Technology, in Cape Town. His first job in the factories was finding out why garments failed.

Back in Zimbabwe he helped his father run Archer Clothing in Bulawayo, one of the country's largest garment makers, with around 2,000 people across its woven and knitwear factories.

KOWLOON, COLOMBO, MUSCAT, SHARJAH

Sourcing across Asia and the Middle East

In Hong Kong he set up a sourcing and design agency working between Western brands, among them Guess Jeans, Naf Naf and Galeries Lafayette, and the factories that made for them. Oversight meant flights and standing on the factory floor to check samples and deadlines in person.

As volumes grew he opened offices in Colombo, Muscat and Sharjah.

MIAMI, LOS ANGELES, CAPE TOWN

From dressing people to designing spaces

In 2002 he co-founded Steam on Sunset, a boutique in South Miami, buying its collections and running its merchandising.

He went on to run Edge Design Intelligence, a Miami interior design firm working across every budget, and to restore, redesign and build homes in Miami, Los Angeles and Cape Town.

MIAMI AND CAPE TOWN

Moooi

After meetings in the Netherlands with Moooi's co-founders Marcel Wanders and Casper Vissers, Stephen and his business partner opened Moooi's first showroom in the United States, on North Miami Avenue, in 2007.

Back in Cape Town, his firm Edge Interiors became Moooi's representative in South Africa.

B The Source brings the four decades together. Pieces are designed in Bali and made in Central Java. Stephen oversees every project, with a team on site and photos sent to clients at each stage of production.

Interior architects, developers and hospitality groups in the US, Europe, the Middle East, South Korea and Southeast Asia come with full drawings or with nothing drawn yet. Either way, they work with someone who has spent forty years making sure what is drawn is what ships.
